SALENTO ARTISANAL HERITAGE

Rediscovering and enhancing the tradition of her homeland territory was the first source of inspiration for designer Nina in creating the brand NINALEUCA

Salento, the luminous green land located between two seas, is recognized throughout the world also for its rich artisanal tradition, embodied in a vivid Mediterranean aesthetic. Behind every loom made fabric, every handcrafted  ceramic cup realized with schizzato, or olive wood tagliere there are people, stories, old techniques , ancient knowledge and traditions that are handed down from generation to generation.

NINALEUCA designer Nina continually explores Salento in search for artisans in particular weaving workshops who are reviving the old techniques of loom made fabrics, characterized by  bright colors inspired to nature and intricate geometric patterns

The tradition of working by loom yarn such as hemp, cotton and linen is lost in the mists of time and seems to date back to the Saracens. Traditionally fabrics were woven on large wooden looms. Organizing the loom before starting to weave was the most difficult task. In the nineteenth century, wooden looms have been replaced mostly  by mechanical looms.

Those fabric woven by loom for NINALEUCA are typically made in 2/3 colors, with 100% pure cotton yarn  coming from America or India. Some patterns  are the traditional ones, but most are designed exclusively by hand from Benedetta.
